RAMMΣLLZΣΣ: Racing for Thunder
The design of the exhibition taught to embody the late Rammellzee’s battle station - his studio space. From the entrance, visitors are drawn through a narrowing corridor with metal panels that call back to the tunnels of the subway - a key element of the artist’s genesis. Following is the film gallery with an angled bleacher with linear light slits. As the visitor navigates through the rest of the main floor, they are directed in various directions with the kinetic placement of fragmented gallery panels, which gives the flexibility to wonder through the space.
On the way down to the basement level of the exhibition, the artist’s piece “Letter Racers” are suspended from the ceiling directing visitors down the stairwell. In the basement, the panels are constructed with industrial materials that allow transparency to the many mannequins embodying the artist’s “Garbage Gods” scattered throughout the space. At the end of the space is a small fragmented room which houses the artist’s final piece, a mirrored pyramid.
