Prospect Heights Residence
The design of this two story addition to a family home in Brooklyn expands the living space and emphasizes the connection to the outdoor spaces. By shifting the stacked volumes of bedrooms in accordance to zoning code, the design welcomes multiple terraces and covered outdoor spaces. The south garden maintains a seamless connection to the patio through to the new living space.
The framing system designed in the addition reflects the existing structure of the original building below, calling back to the historical nature of the original warehouse below. The material palette throughout the addition maintains neutral tones with white walls and concrete floors, with the wood staircase as the centerpiece that wraps through the three floors of the home. The Shui Sugi Ban cladding references the black steel accents throughout the original building and allows the original brick facade to maintain prominence on the street front.
